Kraftur ltd. was established in 1966 in order to import and service MA N trucks and buses. Until then only few MAN vehicles were running on Icelandic roads and all of them had been imported second hand from mainland Europe. Ever since the first MAN truck came to Iceland they have been renowned for their reliability and how suitable they have been for the Icelandic situations. Especially, MAN vehicles were famous for their strong and reliable all wheel drive versions. During winters the country was covered with snow and the importance of all wheel drive trucks was great. Especially important was that milk collecting and oil trucks were able to drive up to the farms collecting milk and deliver oil for heating up the houses. With better roads and less snow the recent years, the importance of all-wheel drive vehicles has deminished a little although in many cases they are still necessary. Instead, transport of normal goods has increased enormously the recent years due to the abortion of ships sailing with goods arround the country. The first years of Kraftur the sale was not very big, only a few vehicles were sold each year, but every year MAN trucks became more popular and the last 25 years or so MAN have been among the most sold trucks in Iceland and in most years MAN has been the number one sold truck in the country.
Today Kraftur runs workshop, sales, and sparepart devision at its premises at Vagnhöfdi 1-3 in Reykjavik with a staff of arround 30 people. Besides that the company has service partners situated in the biggest towns arround the country.
